Christmas Holiday: Lots of interaction with a touch of nostalgia

Christmas Holiday Program at Oorlogsmuseum Overloon: Lots of Interaction with a Touch of Nostalgia

This Christmas holiday, Oorlogsmuseum Overloon offers a special program for young and old, combining a touch of nostalgia with plenty of interaction. In collaboration with the museum’s Junior Director, a varied program has been created for the whole family. Activities include making Christmas cards to send to deployment areas, exploring vehicles inside and out, and experiencing the Blockbuster simulation one last time.

‘Open Car Park’ – Climb on Historic Vehicles
For those who remember the early days of the museum, you might recall when many vehicles, boats, and planes were displayed outside, allowing visitors to climb on them. This nostalgic experience returns during the Christmas holiday. On select days, the museum hosts a special 'Open Car Park' event, where visitors can climb on and into a selection of historic vehicles. Among the highlights are three tanks, offering a truly unique experience.

Living Displays: Re-enactors Bring Stories to Life
The museum also features living displays, where re-enactors depict true stories from World War II. Examples include the pilots of the C-47 and the crew of the Churchill tank on display at the museum. These actors bring these and other significant wartime moments to life, offering a deeper understanding of the personal stories behind the museum’s artifacts.

Final Curtain for the Blockbuster
After years as a key museum attraction, it’s time to say goodbye to the Blockbuster simulation. This immersive experience, which portrays the impact of a bombing raid—from the airplane to the bomb shelter—has left a lasting impression on many visitors. After more than 15 years, the museum is retiring its very first experience. The Blockbuster can still be experienced until the end of the Christmas holiday.

D-DEX Officially Opened
Following a three-month testing phase, the new D-Day experience, D-DEX, is now officially open. During the Christmas holiday, visitors can relive the landing on Omaha Beach. This immersive experience follows in the footsteps of the soldiers who were the first to storm the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. The museum has implemented several enhancements during the test phase to make the experience even more intense and realistic. D-DEX is a must-see! Visitors are immersed in a gripping piece of history with video, audio, props, special effects, and authentic artifacts. Unique, powerful, and unforgettable!

And there’s more!
The museum has also created a bustling Christmas market. Visitors can enjoy food and drinks in a cozy holiday atmosphere. For those eager to learn more about military history, special Weapon Days are being organized, featuring experts who provide insights into the weapons and equipment used during World War II. Guests can also write a personal Christmas message to servicemen and women deployed far from home during the holidays. All cards will be collected and sent to deployment areas.

The museum is open every day this week! Visit D-DEX and experience the invasion of D-Day up close!
