In this new immersive experience, you will witness the invasion of Normandy in a completely modern way.

Step into the footsteps of the men of the American 146th Engineer Combat Battalion. One of the first units to land on Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944. Their mission? To break through the German beach obstacles under heavy enemy fire.

What was D-Day?

D-Day was the day the Allied troops landed in Normandy, France, on June 6, 1944. This massive military operation, known as Operation Overlord, marked the beginning of the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi occupation during World War II.

What does D-Day mean?

The term D-Day stands for "Decision Day" and was used to designate the first day of a planned military operation. It is a general military term but is primarily associated with the invasion of Normandy.

Why Normandy?

The Allies chose the Normandy beaches for the invasion due to their strategic location. The coast was relatively close to England and was considered less heavily defended than other possible locations. This allowed the Allied forces to achieve a successful breakthrough.

More than 130,000 Allied soldiers participated in the largest amphibious invasion in history. The landing took place on five strategically chosen beaches, each given a codename:

  • Sword Beach (British troops)
  • Juno Beach (Canadian troops)
  • Gold Beach (British troops)
  • Omaha Beach (American troops)
  • Utah Beach (American troops)

The successful landings on D-Day were a crucial turning point in World War II and marked the beginning of the liberation of Western Europe.

This is what you'll experience in D-DEX

The 146th Engineer Combat Battalion had the mission to create ten breaches, each 50 meters wide, in the beach obstacles during the early morning hours. Follow this unit closely and see how they try to overcome the German defenders on the beaches and in the bunkers.

Do you dare to step onto the beach?
The unit landed in ten small teams, called "Boat Teams." Each Boat Team had to create a safe passage. You will follow Boat Team 9, led by American Lieutenant Ray Lanterman.

Harsh conditions
The conditions were extremely tough. Omaha Beach was heavily defended by the Germans, who had well-positioned machine guns, bunkers, and artillery. The Allied forces faced intense enemy fire.

Step aboard and experience it yourself
In six immersive scenes, you will follow this unit closely. In a 4D experience, you will feel how they attempted to break through the German defenses on the beaches and in the bunkers. Feel the tension and witness how these men fought for freedom.
