Photos of Gaza in Overloon War Museum
In War Museum Overloon there is an exhibition about life in Gaza. The exhibition includes 24 photos from the period from October 2023. They were taken by 35-year-old Palestinian photographer Bashar Taleb.
There has been unrest in the Middle East for decades. In several countries, different population groups are at odds with each other. On October 7, 2023, Israel was attacked by Hamas terrorists. Nearly 1,100 Israelis were killed, many people were injured and more than 240 people, from young to old, were kidnapped. Shortly afterwards, the Israeli government stated that it wanted to completely eliminate the terrorist organization Hamas and to take all military measures deemed necessary to free the hostages. This led, among other things, to large-scale military actions in the Gaza Strip, which are still ongoing. The more than two million Palestinians who live here came under heavy fire.
This exhibition makes it clear how a war and the military violence that occurs therein affects the lives of ordinary citizens
Palestinian photographer Bashar Taleb was born in Gaza. He studied journalism and public relations there at Al Azhar University. From the Gaza Strip he works for various international media and news agencies. And he is still in Gaza, although he has had to flee his home in northern Gaza. So he experienced the Israeli military operations against Hamas from the beginning. His photos of the consequences for the population in Gaza have now been published worldwide.
The exhibition “GAZA, by Bashar Taleb” can be seen from November 12 to May 11 next year.
