Our Museum is Kidsproof
Are you ready to go on an adventure? In our museum, you’ll step back in time to the Second World War. You’ll learn how the war started, how the Netherlands was occupied in May 1940, and how people lived during that time. But most importantly: what would you have done if you had lived then? What would you do?
What would you do?
During your visit, you’ll follow the stories of eight eyewitnesses, each of whom faced difficult choices. Discover their dilemmas and answer what you would do in each situation:
- Wait? Stay in the background and hope it passes?
- Resist? Join the resistance and take risks to help others?
- Collaborate? Choose to cooperate with the occupiers?
Everyone had to make choices, and nothing was black and white. What would you do?
Curious about the choices the eyewitnesses themselves made? Each eyewitness will share their experience and the outcome of their decision. You can even do a radio interview with Queen Wilhelmina and ask her why she made the decision to flee to England.
Experience D-Day up close
On June 6, 1944, the liberation of Western Europe began with D-Day, the day thousands of Allied soldiers sailed and flew toward the beaches of Normandy (France). Want to experience what it was like?
With D-DEX, you’ll walk in the footsteps of one of the first units that landed. You’ll be surrounded by a full 4D experience. Feel the tension and step aboard heading to Omaha Beach.
Is that a real soldier?
No, don’t worry! The crew of our vehicles and the soldiers at the exhibitions are lifelike mannequins showing how soldiers looked in the past. But be aware: on special days of the year, they really come to life!
On these days, re-enactors walk through the museum – people dressed in historical clothing bringing stories from the Second World War to life. You can ask them anything about their equipment, their stories, and what it was like to be a soldier back then. How cool is that?
Extra Activities
Want to do and experience even more? We have extra activities specially for you!
During holiday periods, we organize extra activities. Maybe you’ll get to ask a real veteran to take off his helmet, or even climb into a military vehicle. Keep an eye on our website and social media for the current program and on which days the extra activities will take place.
